(Common) Redshank (Tringa totanus) Perna-vermelha-comum

A resident species in several coastal areas in Portugal, this species can be found easily enough in the winter throughout the southern half of the country and seen as a passage migrant further north. Red legs and distinctive loud call make the Common Redshank a very obvious species wherever present, but it is wary and often stands "sentry" for the whole area. Open ended wedge along its back is a diagnostic feature in flight.
