A resident species and very common anywhere along the coast. Yellow-legged Gulls are always extremely difficult to tell apart from Lesser Black-backed Gulls, but generally the gonydeal angle, (the angle where the lower mandible turns upwards towards the tip) is more pronounced in the Yellow-legged Gull than in the Lesser Black-backed. The back is a slightly lighter grey in this species also, but that difference can be hard to spot in the field. However, at rest the tertial crescent of the Yellow-legged shows less contrast with the grey of the wing and the primary projections usually show more windows.
