Audouin´s Gull (Larus audouinii) Gaivota de Audouin

This gull, that used to be so rare with only 1,000 pairs in the 1960's, has seen a marked increase both in range and numbers during the last few decades and can now be found with some regularity along the Portuguese southern coastline and we're even starting to see it along the Alentejo coast too.

An unmistakeable bird with wide wings and a slender bill that is deep red with a small black tip, Audouin's Gulls have an overall "clean" appearance, a light grey back and upper wings with much black in the tip.
