Resident throughout the length and breadth of Portugal, you will never be far from a Nuthatch if you can see any kind of tree. Feeding head up or head down they hop along tree trunks and branches finding insects or seeds and advertising their presence with loud calls. Sexes are alike. They nest in tree-holes, sometimes taking over an old Woodpecker nest and closing up the entrance to the right size with mud, as can be seen in some of the pictures published here.
