European Nightjars prefer sandy soils with pine trees, so the Algarvean habitat suits them splendidly and one can find them wherever this habitat still exists in Villa-Land.
Alternatively try the less developed and, to my mind, nicer west coast of the Alentejo where they are relatively common. Every other year or so we also have them nesting near the Quinta.
A summer species only, arriving in April and leaving in September.
