Red Kite (Milvus milvus) Milhafre-real

A common species on the Plains from September through to April. During the warmer months of the year Red Kites migrate to the north of Portugal and are replaced by the slightly smaller and darker Black Kite.

The tail is prominently forked, but can appear straight when spread.
