Dunnock (Prunella modularis) Ferreirinha-comum

A winter visitor throughout much of Portugal and only resident in the far north of the country, Dunnocks are one of those LBJs I personally find adorable. They are birds primarily of thick undergrowth with a deliciously bright eye and beautiful lilac throat and neck accentuated by a streaked brown crown, cheek, body and wings. They possess a lively, inquisitive and aware manner and a loud "pseeeep" call. They are meant to be shy and retiring, but I have never found them so; this might be simply their winter behaviour, as to me they have always appeared confiding and approachable.
