Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica) Fuselo

A smaller over-wintering species than its cousin the Black-tailed Godwit, Bar-tails are seldom seen away from the coast, but they can be difficult to tell apart notwithstanding. In winter plumage the back is more streaked, though the bill at this time of year is, though smaller, remarkable similar in colour to that of the Black-tailed, being pinkish at the base with a black tip. The lack of a wing bar in flight is distinctive and in breeding plumage the belly is red and unbarred in contrast to the Black-tailed's.
